De fire hovedutfordringer

Jeg vil også ta med de fire hovedutfordringene vi som sivilisasjon nå står overfor. Merk at Tverberg IKKE tar med klimautfordringene, som politikerne inklusive MDG elsker å snakke om. Selv om disse er reelle og alvorlige nok, ville nok Tverberg plassere disse et godt stykke nede på lista. Klima er tilstrekkelig abstrakt til at det fungerer utmerket som en distraksjon fra våre politikere og eliter, for å ta fokuset vekk fra «den grimme og umiddelbare virkelighet»: http://ourfiniteworld.com/2015/09/29/low-oil-prices-why-worry/#comment-68194

(1) Too much debt
(2) Resources sufficiently depleted that they are costly to extract
(3) Way too much population to live without fossil fuels
(4) A fragile financial system that collapses if it stops growing 

Getting rid of 30% of the population doesn’t really get rid of any of those problems. We would need a much larger population reduction to live without fossil fuels. 

The problem would be easier to solve if we didn’t have a lot of weak links. Back when we humans just farmed the land, and our problem was simply too much population for the arable land, a 30% population reduction would have fixed the problem for a while. Economies could grow after a plague came through and cut population back a little.» - Gail Tverberg
